About

Woman Writing a Letter by Gerard Terborch, 1655.

Hello, my name is Ella and welcome to my blog, History With Ella. History With Ella is a blog that will explore topics I have been recently been researching or reading about. Some subjects that interest me include women’s history, art history and design, museums, domestic history, literature and so much more! I mainly focus on American and European history.

My blog posts could take the form of discussing different thoughts I have, sharing helpful books and electronic resources, museum exhibition reviews and more!

My posts are written informally because I am a human and also because the goal of my blog is not to create polished journal articles. My goal, is rather, to foster dialogue about interesting subjects throughout history and discuss them with others. And so, I will use slang, I will crack jokes and I will make my posts fun and entertaining. I am an amateur historian, which means that all my research is done on the side outside of my current primary job (being a high school student) and doesn’t have an end goal either then to fulfill my own internal cravings to learn. Essentially, most of my blog posts will be ideas. If you are looking for a polished biography or wikipedia pages, you won’t find that here. What you will find are probing questions, thoughts and other exciting and interesting tid-bits and details.

You may know me from the Instagram page @petticoatsandpanniers. Petticoats and Panniers is an Instagram account I have been running for about four years that shares images and information on dress and art history. I love Petticoats and Panniers and am proud of how much it has grown (upwards of 3,000 followers!) My blog will accompany my Instagram nicely by providing more in-depth information about both dress and art history along with a wider range of subjects.

A Young Girl Reading by Jean-Honoré Fragonard.

Fun fact about me: I have a twin! Her name is Margot. She is primarily interested in science but she also loves museums and history like me. None the less, she has been subject to many a rant on history from yours truly.
